Tennessee DMV COVID-19 Guidelines

Is your Tennessee driver’s license about to expire? If so, here’s some information to make your visit to the DMV safe and productive.

The Department of Safety and Homeland Security regularly monitors the COVID-19 situation throughout Tennessee. Based on this information, authorities provide guidelines and requirements to keep all DMV employees and visitors safe.

While many Driver Services Centers and Self-Service Kiosks are open for business, there are some that remain closed. Check the closure advisories for unavailable centers in your area.

Authorities currently recommend using the e-Services portal rather than visiting a DMV office when possible.

Available online services include:

  • Completing a new resident application

If you do plan to visit to the DMV in person, keep the following requirements in mind:

  • Wear a cloth face mask

  • Stay at least six feet apart from others when possible
  • Be prepared to wait in your vehicle if the office reaches limited capacity

Keep in mind that if you are scheduled to get an updated photo for your license in 2020, the Department has extended the deadline, so you now have through 2021 to appear in-person for a new picture.
